Answers to the questions we hear most from the BARS community.
Choose “Organisation” on the Register page. Provide your basic details, pillar (Sarkaar, Bazaar or Samaaj), focus areas and a verification document such as a registration certificate. Your organisation appears in the directory with a “Pending” badge until our reviewers verify it.
Yes. Searching the repository, exploring the directory, viewing Live Data and uploading verified insights are all free for organisations, volunteers and experts working on road safety in India. BARS is a public-good initiative across Sarkaar, Bazaar and Samaaj.
Use the contact form on this page, email contact@bars.org.in — we reply within one working day. For urgent verification issues, mention your insight ID and we will prioritise it.
Click the Upload button, add your file and a short summary, then tag its category, focus area and geography. It enters the verification queue straight away, and you can follow its status on the Verification page.
Open the National Black Spot Atlas and use “Report a black spot”. Tell us where it is, what makes it dangerous and how serious it is — photos help. You get a reference number, and verified reports are shared with NHAI, state PWDs and the District Road Safety Committee.
Open any published insight and use “Cite” to copy a ready-made reference with the authoring organisation, year and a permanent BARS link. Citations are tracked, so the original author is notified whenever their work is referenced.
Every insight goes through a two-step check: an automated screen for formatting, duplicates and data integrity, then a human review by a domain expert. Only insights that pass both receive the “Verified” badge and enter the Central Repository.
Most submissions are reviewed within 24–48 hours. Larger datasets or insights that need clarification may take a little longer — you will see live status updates on your Verification page and a notification the moment a decision is made.
Register and select “Join the expert network”. Share your domain (e.g. accident investigation, trauma care, road engineering) and years of experience. Approved experts verify submissions, mentor volunteers and shape national best practice.
Very little. Volunteer profiles show name, city, skills and contribution only — phone numbers and email addresses are never public, and introductions are routed through BARS. Black-spot reports can be made anonymously.
Today the match score is the share of road-safety themes two organisations have in common, taken from their listed focus areas. AI similarity and network signals are planned. Send connection requests from the Network page; matches are ranked by relevance, not by size.
National and state figures come from MoRTH's official “Road Accidents in India” reports (the 2024 edition, released June 2026), with laws and schemes from the Gazette and PIB. Insights link to their official source, and organisation profiles list the public sources behind every fact.
Tell us what looks wrong through the contact form (choose “Report an issue”) and, if possible, cite the correct source. Reports go to the authoring organisation and our review team, who correct or annotate the record.
